There are two ways to circumnavigate the island: quickly by speedboat or slowly by sea kayak. The second option is the best to truly appreciate the island’s beauty. Start your tour from Levante on a calm morning, with mask and fins. You will explore the Punte Nere, characterized by lava formations and unique flora, and the Ròia inlet, famous for its stunning caves to explore by kayak or swim. A true immersion in nature.
Before reaching “Schìcciula”, a small cave, you will discover a natural hot spring pool, perfect for relaxing after the cave exploration. The journey continues towards Punta Lùccia, then Punta Quadrara, where you’ll pass through a tunnel in the kayak or swim, with an intense green-blue light emerging from the depths. Proceeding to Punta Bandiera, you’ll reach the beautiful beaches of Gelso, perfect for a picnic on the fine black sand.
Starting from Gelso after 5 pm, you’ll reach the western coast, characterized by high cliffs and black lava dykes, best seen in the warm sunset light. At Punta Conigliara, a thrilling tunnel crosses the point. Next, you’ll arrive at Gotta Abate, a refuge between the rocks, and continue towards the Grotta del Cavallo, spectacular at sunset with its high walls and crystal-clear water, ideal for a refreshing swim.
The coast becomes increasingly rugged with points and bays. Capo Grosso is particularly interesting due to its unique shape. The Faraglione di Ponente, also known as the Scoglio delle Sirene, guards the entrance to the Baia di Ponente. After that, visit the Faraglioni of Lipari, the natural arch “u Pirciatu”, and explore Vulcanello, where marine erosion reveals the internal structure of the volcano, concluding an unforgettable day.
